At the exit of the pass to Belen lies the Bagras castle. In the Middle Ages the castle protected the pass to Belen from raids. Already in the antiquity there was a castle which guarded the street of Antiochia to Alexandria. In 1096 this castle was taken by occurring crusaders. In 1189 sultan Saladin (the Kurdish sultan) conquered the castle and allowed to tear off them. The Armenian Leo II rebuild them after some years. In 1268 the castle fell in the hands of the Mamelukes.
